Target Marketing Strategies

An interesting attempt at target marketing I thought of is car dealerships and loaner cars.  When you first buy a new car, they give you whatever loaner cars they have, sometimes not even the same make.  However, if you're still bringing your car in for service once it hits about 4 or 5 years old they start giving you a newer model of the car you have or a one step up upgrade.  My mom experienced this with Toyota.  I thought it was an interesting attempt at marketing that was targeted toward people that are hopefully brand loyal.  By showing you the newer model of the cars, they hope you'll buy it from that brand and dealership again.

B2B Marketing

I think that the Winter Olympics is a good current example of business to business marketing because of the massive marketing that happens for an olympic event.  Not only does the 2010 Olympics advertise Vancouver as a place for businesses to move to, but also the Olympics involves sponsors and athletes who are themselves a business as their primary means of living is through endorsements.  There's also a lot of clothes and gear for the Olympics that i'm sure was marketed toward companies in Vancouver leading up to the Olympics.

Ch. 5 Consumer Behavior

Chapter 5 talks about consumer behavior and why we buy the things we do.  The discussions in class reminded me of this commercial where a woman (presumably a mother) is looking for a frozen pizza. This ad attempts to mirror how a conscientious woman would shop for groceries and uses voiceover to show what's going on in her head.  The company tried to do your usual shopping process for you ahead of time so when you go to the store looking for a frozen pizza you can go straight to theirs instead of looking at all the pizzas and all the ingredients and deciding for yourself.  In addition, this ad also points out how other brands of pizza may be unhealthy and artificial, but theirs is not.  This is a smart ad because food is a need and something that many people are very concerned with, especially parents who are the ones most likely to be buying frozen pizza besides college students that go straight for the cheapest brand most likely without regard to ingredients.
